Flights and Handicaps

The Metro Seniors Handicap process strives to make all our Weekly and Special Events Tournaments competitive, fair and enjoyable. It allows players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis within and across flights. Four (4) competition flights and multiple position prizes give more opportunity to win cash. Weekly calculation of player handicaps by course and tee position and weekly flight adjustment maintain fairness throughout the season and in Special Event Tournaments.

For Metro Seniors handicaps and flights to work fairly, every player must:

  • Try to make their best score on every hole in every weekly tournament round
  • Follow all Tournament Rules for Tees Played, ball placement, strokes, and penalties
  • Accurately record and report all hole scores, and tees used at every regular weekly tournament round played

Handicap Guide (HG) Calculation – The Base of Player Course Handicaps for each Tee

The GolfLeague.us Handicap Guide calculation is similar and comparable to but does not copy the copyrighted USGA World Handicap System (WHS). Some key features for Metro Seniors using the Handicap Guide:

  • Maximum Handicap Guide: 54.0 for men and women
  • Calculates a new player Handicap Guide with each new weekly tournament round recorded
  • Net Double Bogey reduces unusually high gross hole scores in any round based on player course/tee handicap to get Adjusted Gross Score
  • Uses 8 lowest Differentials [Adjusted Gross Score – Course Rating(tee played) x 113/Slope Rating] of the last 16 rounds in Current and Prior Two (2) Seasons (years)
  • Calculates and Maintains Player Handicap Guide continuity from week to week, and season to season
  • Player Handicap Guide reported for all players before each weekly Tournament
  • New Players or Players with Less Than 16 rounds in Current, and Prior Two (2) Seasons
    • Handicap Guide calculation modified for fewer rounds
    • After at LEAST 3 rounds recorded, Compete for flight prizes with Official Course/Tee Handicap
